Having Fun!
The High Desert Region of the
Porsche Club of America has always been
about having a good time with your Porsche in the company of our fellow
members! Whether participating
in one of our many driving events, engaged in the club's
social and/or technical activities or
contributing time and effort to community works in and around Central
Oregon; we have a good time.

A Brief History:
On April 29, 2000
at an Executive Council meeting of the Porsche Club of America in
Roanoke, VA., the High Desert Region was granted a
charter thus becoming the 142nd Region in the PCA. The Region
is comprised of the following 13 Oregon counties: Deschutes,
Jefferson, Crook, Baker, Gilliam, Grant, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla,
Union, Wallowa, Wasco and Wheeler. Geographically we are the
largest Region in the state of Oregon with an area larger than that of
most New England states. Here's how we got to where we are
today.
Formerly known as the Eastern Chapter of the Cascade Region and at
other times as the Central Oregon Porsche Enthusiasts (COPE),
the club met once a month at various local restaurants in the Central
Oregon area for breakfast. At one of our winter gatherings in
early 1999 a discussion arose concerning the difficulties we had
attending Cascade Region events which were typically held over 100
miles away on the western side of the Cascades mountain range that
divides the state. Not only were the distances long but in
the winter the snow covered passes were intimidating enough to
discourage almost all pleasure trips! What was needed
according to one of our members Fred Faria, was for us to
form our own region.
Spearheaded by Fred Faria and with the help of Brian Gingrich and then
President Bill
Moore (spear carriers?), application was made to the national
PCA office for recognition of the newly organized "High Desert
Region". Thanks to the efforts of those three plus many
others, our region status was achieved in April of 2000 at
the meeting noted earlier. Formal presentation of the
official document was made on August 3, 2000 by Zone 6 Representative
Dick Grant to President Bill Moore at a Charter Dinner held on the lawn
of the Athletic Club of Bend surrounded by examples of our favorite
marque. Subsequently an anniversary dinner has been held each
year to commemorate that event.

Future Goals:
It's fully expected that the High
Desert Region will grow as does
Central Oregon and that the challenge the club faces will be to expand
it's current multi-faceted program accordingly while keeping its light
hearted stance.
