Presidential Ramblings – May 2014
Hooray, Hooray for the 1st of May, since Porsche touring starts today! Yep, we made it through the winter season, when many Porsches have been tucked away under cover, and peacefully resting in the garage.
That’s not to say that their owners were resting… We have had some very entertaining times in April, thanks to the HDR volunteers who continue to step up to orchestrate and participate in events like the Charter Dinner, Cars & Coffee, Tech Sessions along with the Adopt a Road program. The friendships, which have been developed over the years, continue to be strong, even when we are not driving our cherished Porsches.
When the days were cool & and windy, with the occasional snowflakes, our HDR members were busy hatching plans for the summer out of town driving events such as; the Dam Wine Tour, Baker City, Mt St Helens, Crater Lake. I know you have been following these plans, since the majority of the events are sold out.
We are currently in the process of refreshing our HDR website, with the key goals to develop a “user friendly” & “exciting” destination that you will look forward to visiting frequently. You may recall the survey results presented at the Wednesday evening social on March 19th of this year. YES, we have been listening!
I am pleased to announce that two of our HDR members have stepped up to help create and manage our refreshed website: David Gentry who will be our new webmaster and Jim Boyd (new member) who will be our new editor. We will continue moving forward with our award winning HDR website! I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to both Jesse Felder (webmaster) and Lisa Sarmiento (editor) for their outstanding contributions over the past few years.
In closing, I would like to share a story about the age range within our HDR Porsche Club. Our oldest affiliate member is Virginia Miller (behind the wheel) who turned 100 on September 20, 2013. She is the mother of Janet Graeber and mother in-law to Curt Graeber who recently joined HDR. They have discovered just how much fun we were having, and bought a 997 Cab so they could join the fun. You may remember singing “Happy Birthday” to Virginia, at our September Wednesday evening social event!
Now for the youngest member, and that would be 7 ½ week old Jackson David Lauray, new son of Jennifer & Scott Lauray. It won’t be too long until Jackson will be a happy Porsche backseat driver, strapped in his car seat (sport bucket, I would assume) watching the world go by.
So here “we all are” somewhere in the spectrum between Virginia & Jackson!
That’s it for now… I’m looking forward to seeing you throughout the driving season, and the rest of the year!
“Enjoy your Porsche and Porsche Friends, even more”
Pete Olson (HDR President)
