What a summer! I would love to do it all over again, and wouldn’t change a thing... And just think, we have a couple of more months of driving adventures!

I hope that you are taking lots of photos, to capture the memories of all “your” HDR summer activities. Which reminds me... we would love to have you write a story for Downshift (with photos) sharing your perspectives of a favorite HDR event. It’s an opportunity to hone your writing skills, and impress our new & existing members.

I had the opportunity to attend the first annual Porsche WERKS, held in Carmel Valley, California, on Aug 15th, during the Monterey Car Week.  There were 500 Porsches registered for judging, and another 200+ in the Porsche Corral.

Like all PCA events, it was staffed by volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to meet some very enthusiastic members, and there are many. I enjoyed helping judge the 911 “outlaws”, which were extremely spectacular Porsches!

There was even an opportunity to have a photo taken with the Michelin man, not something you are able to do every day!

Giving back to the Community... We were pleased to present a $300.00 check to Vanessa from the Deschutes County Historical Museum at our Wednesday evening social. This donation came from the proceeds of the HDR Time 2 Shine event held on the Museum lawn on June 21st.

And then there was the Sodbuster Hops Farm Tour on Saturday the 23rd. Thoroughly enjoyed by the 23 folks in attendance! Special thanks to Curt Graeber for the organization, and especially to HDR members Doug & Audrey Weather for being fantastic hosts... Well done!

And... to close out the August there was the 356 West Coast Holiday held at Skamania Lodge near Stevenson WA, with the concours on Saturday the 30th. HDR did not have any Porsches entered, however I met several old friends from the Pacific Northwest Region who had 356’s on display. There were hundreds of beautiful 356 Porsches on display in the rain!

Still much more to come this year! Check out the schedule of events at our HDR website www.highdesertpca.org

One more thing: Register to show your Porsche at the Oregon Festival of Cars (Saturday, Sept 13th) at Brokentop Country Club. HDR had a great showing last year, let’s do it again!

“Enjoy your Porsche & Porsche Friends Even More”!
