Presidential Ramblings – February 2015

by | Jan 30, 2015 | Presidential Ramblings

Hey!  Variety is the spice of life, and January on the High Desert has been “spicy”…  let me count the ways; rain, snow, fog, black ice, wind and then the grand finale, beautiful warm sunny days!  And with the sunshine, out came the toys!  I've seen lot’s of Porsches on the road, including one of our club members beautifully restored 1956 “pale yellow” 356.

We were pleased to have some special guests at out Jan 21st HDR Social @ Carrera Club… They are the folks who make the “Skid School” training classes happen.  (R to L) Rick Nickell & Kathy Levine (La Pine/Bend School District Drivers Ed), Robin Edwards (Deschutes County Risk Management) & Mike Johnson (Skid School Driving Instructor).

We were able to present them with a check for $3,600.00, made possible by the efforts & generosity of our HDR Club members at our Dec 2014 Holiday Party “silent auction” and “raffle”. These funds will provide training for 40 High School Drivers Ed students, in 2015, a substantial increase from the 28 students we funded last year.  Congratulations & Well Done!

Next month we will be presenting another $3600.00 check to Central Oregon Community College Automotive, for student scholarships.

Rock Concert in Bend???  Nope… it was just the “huge” Saturday Night Crowd at Porsche of Bend (Jan 24th) for the public unveiling of the Porsche 918 Spyder & the BMW i8.  An event extraordinaire!

So… as you already know, the HDR Porsche Club thrives on fun & new experiences.  We are always looking for new event ideas, and would love to hear from you!

If you have some event ideas, please contact our Event Coordinator, Scott Loring at srloring@bendcable.com

Also, let Scott know if you would be willing to help plan and coordinate an activity.  We encourage you to “just do it”, even if you haven’t done one before… many of our seasoned veterans are there to give you a helping hand.

Be sure to spend some time browsing “our” HDR website, it’s great fun!  Be sure to check the events calendar so that you don’t miss out on the events which you would like to attend.

And then… take the time to create “your” story & photo contributions, making our website even more fun & exciting.  Contact our Editor, Jim Boyd editor@www.highdesertpca.org

We look forward to hearing from you!

Enjoy your Porsche & Porsche Friends Even More!
