Presidential Ramblings – May 2015

Pete Olson - High Desert Region President

Well… The High Desert Region driving season came “early” this year. And what a month April has been!

The “kick-off” … Saturday April 4th saw two driving events to grab our attention!  1. The Oregon Raceway Park “track day” with 3 of our very own HDR driving instructors, joined by 7 HDR members enthusiastically exercising their Porsches.  2. And, the first Arrive & Drive, of over 20 Porsches, led by Richard & Nancy Farnham, over the back roads of Central Oregon, ending with a social lunch at Jackson’s Corner in Bend.

photo 1On Saturday April 11th we celebrated our High Desert Region PCA’s 15th Anniversary with a Charter Dinner at the Awbrey Glen Country Club.  Over 100 HDR members were in attendance!

Saturday April 18th found over 30 club members at the European Car Care HDR Tech Session.  We were treated to a display of 9 Porsche 911’s ranging from an early 911L yellow long hood, soft window Targa to a striking silver 997 Turbo.  Jonathon Smith took us through the row of 911’s, presenting key information on each one.

And then… to close out the month’s Porsche activities… Saturday April 25th, our HDR Porsche Club members displayed an assorted variety of 41 beautiful & pristine Porsches at the 7th Annual Redmond Diego’s Car Show.  This was only our second year, & with our club member’s enthusiasm, we took the top award for club participation!  Fantastic!

Be sure to spend some time browsing “our” HDR website, it’s great fun!

Check the events calendar so that you don’t miss out on the events which you would like to attend.

Also, we have several weekend & overnight events planned.  Check the flyers on our website and sign up for the ones that attract your interest.  Week-end trip participation is limited; usually by hotel and restaurant accommodations… timely response is required so that you don’t miss out!

This year we also have an expanded Porsche show at the Deschutes County Historic Museum…  It’s called “Porsches on the High Desert”.  Check our website for details!

And then… please take the time to create “your” story & photo contributions, making our website even more fun & exciting.  Contact our Editor, Jim Boyd HDR.Editor@gmail.com

In closing…we were all saddened by the April 8th passing of a “dear friend “ and fellow Porsche enthusiast, Tom Anderson.  He will be greatly missed.  The will be a celebration of his life at Club Carrera on May 20th.  I will notify our HDR members once the planning details are in place.

Enjoy your Porsche & Porsche Friends Even More!
