Rennsport V Reunion Tour

[soliloquy id="4933"]

After 10 months of waiting, the time was finally upon us! Twenty cars of HDR Porsche Racing fans headed south to Monterey on Sept. 23rd on a Tour devised by Tim Hagner.   Arriving at a picnic area at the Crags in Lake Shasta area for lunch we encountered unexpected Rangers and exorbitant fees. Luckily Jerry Kolb was able to negotiate a group fee, and Cliff Cayer bribed the Rangers with cookies! After a pleasant lunch in the pines, we headed on to the fabled Hwy 299 through the Trinity Alps for a zipping , twisty drive (ask Max Clausen how twisty it was!) to the California Coast and our destination for the night, the haunted Scotia Inn.

The next Day it was off through the Redwoods and an iconic drive-through tree, lunch in San Francisco, across the Golden Gate, and a nice rest stop at the sunny beach! Then a perfect drive along the coast, until we hit a California Traffic Jam, south of Santa Cruz- we all reaffirmed our decision to live in Bend. Arriving at our Beach-side motel north of Monterey we were sharing with the PCA club from Seattle, we all then took off for seaside dinners. Kathi Loring and Evelyn Chernoff had arranged group dinners for all 3 nights for those who chose to participate – great food, great company!

Of course, the highlight of the trip was the Rennsport Reunion itself and the next 2-3 days were spent with 57,000 other Porsche-philes enjoying the 320 vintage race cars at full-scream on the Laguna Seca track, ogling 1500 display cars, drooling through the paddock, viewing the 919 that won Le Mans this year ( in addition to previous winners), buying souvenirs, and cruising through the Corrals to view 1400 Porsches driven to the track! There were thirteen 918’s there – some with wild paint jobs on their million-dollar cars. The 356 Registry put on a special gathering with 150 356’s on display, as well. Porsche overload…. almost.

If you did not get there we will bore you with all our favorite stories, beware of members wearing Rennsport T-shirts, and the Rennsport WILL BE BACK so you can join us next time!
