Presidential Ramblings – June 2016

Pete Olson - High Desert Region PCA President

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  Summer is here! And… I would add that we experienced an excellent spring as well.

I “challenge” you to fit in as many 2016 High Desert Region Porsche Club events as you can find time for…  Make some memories! The best way to keep up to date with our activities is to visit our website at www.highdesertpca.org  Click on events, and you will be amazed by all of the things that have been planned.

Week-end events, such as Hood River Orchard Tour, Grants Pass Tour, Journey to Joseph, to name a few… are great fun!  Participation is limited, usually by the destinations lodging & restaurant capabilities.  So… if any of these are of interest, be sure to act before they are filled.

  •  Everything begins with an idea!
  • When you see an opportunity take it!

Those two “concepts” fostered our successful Driver Skills Clinic at the Redmond Airport on Saturday May 14th.

With knowledge of the Redmond Airport being closed for runway repair, we approached their management with the concept of holding a Porsche Driver Skills Clinic.  They enthusiastically accepted the idea, and we were on our way!  We had our Porsches out on the tarmac in just over 3 weeks after the original idea!  Thanks to all of the great volunteers who worked as a team to make this happen!  “Read all about it” in this month’s Downshift….

Note: for those of you who didn’t get a chance to attend the Redmond Airport event, or would like to do it again…  Cascade Region PCA is holding a “similar” event in Medford on August 28th We are in the process of organizing a drive to Medford to participate in this event.  Will keep you posted!

Each year we collect stuffed animals & donate them to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Department.  Their officers provide these to traumatized children, which they encounter during their daily activities.  This year we are donating 52 of these cuddly creatures!

“Fueled by Volunteers” Yes… that’s the moto of the Porsche Club of America.

I would like to introduce Bob Stark (Arrive & Drive Chair) & Sam Davis (Membership Chair) as two of the latest to “step up” & take on HDR leadership responsibilities.  Both are new High Desert PCA members, joining in 2015!

My sincere thank you to “all” HDR members who continue to volunteer their time, expertise & energy to create the comradery & enjoyment we derive from our Porsche ownership!

A heads-up…  we are working on streamlining our registration and payment process for HDR events.  There is a tried & true online system (Motorsportsreg.com) which is extensively used by car oriented clubs.  You may have used it to register for The Oregon Festival of Cars.   We will began using it, starting with our Wed evening social (June 15th).  I will be sending out an e-mail blast with the basic instructions on how to use it.  It’s easy, even I can do it!

And in closing… A hot tip (not highly recommended) on how to improve your Porsches fuel mileage. “Drive to your destination, and then have your Porsche flat bedded home”.  Actually, all’s well that ends well, just an alternator & battery to get it back on the road!

Oh… and one more thing…  Treffen 2016 @ Lake Tahoe (Sep 7th – 11th)

The registration date has been moved to June 15th.  What’s Treffen you ask?

Treffen (German for "To Gather")  is a multi-day event put on by National PCA, focused on tours & local attractions (in this case the Lake Tahoe area).  Go to treffen.pca.org to see what it is all about… then start planning!

Wishing you “great success” as we look forward to making

                    “2016 Our Best Year Ever!”

Enjoy your Porsche & Porsche Friends Even More!
