Zone Six Gathering and Show
Bend, Oregon
September 23-25, 2016
One of the great “locals only” secrets about Bend and Central Oregon has always been the month of September. The summer visitors are gone and the winter visitors are yet to come, roads are clear and traffic is down, days are sunny and nights are beginning to cool. If this sounds like Porsche time — it is!
For almost twenty years Central Oregon in September has been the venue for the Oregon Festival of Cars. Founded by the Oregon Region of PCA as a Porsche event, the Festival of Cars evolved after a few years into an all-make event to include owners of other makes who envied the gathering in Central Oregon. The High Desert Region of PCA has supported the Festival of Cars with a compliment of entries since its inception, and for 2016 the Festival of Cars organizers have asked us if we would like to carve out a PCA Zone Six event that shares some of the logistics and the beautiful Broken Top Club site of the Festival of Cars. We could not refuse an opportunity to invite our fellow Porschephiles from throughout the Northwest to share in a weekend of showing off our cars, driving favorite roads, and joining in an evening celebrating our marque. Zone Six will celebrate the PCA roots of the Festival.
Did we forget the beer? Bend has become known as the craft brewing capital of the US and our Saturday evening get together will feature a liberal sampling of the local brews. The emphasis is on providing everyone with a weekend of fun and camaraderie.
Porsches on the High Desert will include:

Accommodations
We have arranged for a block of rooms at the Mount Bachelor Village Resort ranging from hotel-type rooms ($129/night) to three bedroom homes, 1,900 s.f. homes ($379/night). The resort has graciously extended the period covered by the for the show rates to additional days on the front or back of the show dates. An area will be provided for washing and last minute detailing of your cars.
Mt. Bachelor Village is located about 1.2 miles from the site of the show, but there are also several hotels in downtown Bend and near the Old Mill shopping center for those who would like to avail themselves of Central Oregon’s best shopping experience or its many art galleries. HDR has many “shopping consultants” among its members who would be more than happy to assist with recommendations for these activities!
The Show
The objective of the event is for everyone — participants and the public — to have fun. Most of the cars in attendance will have been driven to the show and many will be “daily drivers”, Porsche’s are, after all, exceptional driving machines, and the judging will reflect an emphasis on fun and driving. Led by Mike Simmons, judging will be performed by teams, with members looking at the exterior, the interior, engine compartment, luggage area and overall presentation. We have adopted a no touch philosophy and will expect the presenter of the car to open doors and lids, but the judges will not be lifting carpet, counting tools or wielding Q-Tips checking for hidden dirt!
Ribbons and trophies will be awarded in a broad range of categories that emphasize the versatility and variety of vehicles produced by Porsche over the years. We will even have a tractor category and, recognizing the modern utility of the Cayenne and Mecan, will have categories for the 4-door cars as well. Tentative classes are attached.
While we encourage everyone to show their cars, we want to emphasize the fun of this event and judging is optional for each participant. All participants will be eligible to participate in the special awards (see below).
Awards Banquet
The awards banquet will be held at Mt. Bachelor Village, and the “dress” will be Central Oregon Casual, which we define as whatever makes you comfortable. Leave the ties at home and come prepared for an evening of enjoyment. We will be highlighting the local craft brewing industry in our choice of menu entrees and will have a selection of the local brews as well as Oregon and Washington wine available for your enjoyment as well.
The evening will culminate recognizing the cars that have been judged to have special merit. We have the regular categories one would expect that we have tentatively listed below, to which we have added a few special awards to add interest and special recognition for such things as the region that comes the furthest (cars X miles), the participant who comes the longest distance to attend, etc.
