Two years ago I was able to attend the Grass Valley Oregon Raceway Park event with a number of the HDRPCA club members. It was a great experience to get to know my Porsche Boxster S although it did not involve as much track time as I would have liked. This year Hooked on Driving was in charge of the event and did an outstanding job. What made it so much better was the quality organization Hooked on Driving did which provided all drivers great amount of track time.
All Zone 6 Porsche region members were invited to attend the Drivers Ed event at Oregon Raceway Park (ORP) on June 18th & 19th. About every type of Porsche was there, along with a limited number of other makes, which increased the success of the event! Porsche of Bend’s generosity by providing the food for all of us, as well as picking up part of the tab was also a bonus greatly appreciated by all.

Prepping for ORP Track Time

Porsches Prepped for the Track
For those who have never been to this type of event here’s a quick overview. After a Porsche of Bend breakfast we attended a drivers meeting, and then were broken down into ability groups ranging from beginners to advanced. It was rainy Saturday morning which gave all an opportunity to gain a better knowledge of the track and how our cars responded to the wet track conditions. Following this first track run we met again as a group for a “Download” which included evaluation and further instruction. Once that was completed we quickly returned to the track for more driving experience. This set the pattern: drive session, download session, drive session, download session and so on. We broke this routine with a fantastic lunch followed by more driving and ended the day with another great Porsche of Bend sponsored meal.

On the Track @ ORP
That was Saturday, and for those who signed up for Sunday found fewer cars but still a lot of great driving and instruction.
Summing up, this was an event that worked for all types of drivers and cars. There’s room for the GT cars as well as the Miata and everything in-between. Thanks to Hooked on Driving and to Tim, Bill and everyone else for all their hard work to make this be such a well organized and great event. It gets my two thumbs up!
